Saint Ar15 Review - In 2016, Springfield Armory released the SAINT line of AR-15s. The collection also includes AR pistols, standard rifles, and short-barreled rifles. Some were offered in different calibers, but most focused on the tried and true 5.56. The basic model is called SAINT. The next level was called SAINT Victor and the top package was called SAINT Edge.
The premise behind the packs was to offer great value out of the box and require no upgrades. I recently had the opportunity to test SAINT. We ended up on a trip together, but I came away with a better understanding of the rifle and an appreciation for the quality it represents.

Springfield Armory Saint Edge Ar 15 Pistol
The guys at my FFL spoke highly of the SAINT when I picked it up. They talked about it as an undisputed juggernaut, slaving away in the rental segment of the range. After thousands of rounds they sounded almost unstoppable.
I should preface this by saying that I have a slightly different relationship with my friends at the gun store because I come several times a month and rarely shop. But it caught my ear as a great value for money gun.

I prefer ARs with rails that cover the entire barrel. The SAINT I received just had a picatinny rail on top of the receiver. It had A2 style sights, bayonet lands, slings and B5 system accessories. Features an 8-inch M-LOK handguard, 23-type P-Grip, and Bravo stock.

Other highlights include a 16-inch, chrome-moly vanadium barrel, 1-inch by 8-inch twist, and an A2 birdcage. It had a forged 7075 T6 aluminum top and bottom. There is a tension system at the bottom, but I found it tight. The bolt carrier assembly is Carpenter 158 steel, HPT/MPI tested and Melonite coated. Interestingly, the buffer is "H" or heavy. The gas system is of medium length with an attached gas block. Everything else was mil-spec or very close.
I loaded my Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 and headed to the range with several hundred rounds of Patriot Defense 55 grain ammo. I started at the 25 yard line to see where I was. My first group had two close rounds and a flyer just inches away. This was outside of my experience, but the trend continued. After several teams of three rounds, I was rescued on the mission and came back more prepared.
When I came back, they set me up for the bear. I reassembled the frame and checked all torque specs. I got the same results when loading with the same cartridges. I used another rifle that I knew was accurate and drilled a hole. I loaded the 55 grain Fiocchi into the SAINT and started seeing an immediate change. Marking the optics I put three in a hole at 25 yards. I pushed it to the 50 yard line and had a .46 inch group. Moving to 100 yards, I was dealing with more wind, but with groups averaging 2.5 inches. I suspect I will have tighter groups with heavier bullet weights.
All those shots SAINT was reliable for me. I didn't have any issues, false feeds or any issues. While I was figuring out what was going on, I fired an annoying amount - due to the current pandemic shortage - and the gun worked fine. With the optic removed, I reinstalled the flip-up rear sight that comes with the SAINT. The same reliability was true. Unburdened by a mystery, I began to enjoy myself again.

I really like B5 Systems furniture. The Bravo stock features a particularly large cheek weld and shoulder pocket without being too bulky. I thought I would appreciate the thin hand guard until I started running hard through the magazines.
M-LOK is at 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 11 o'clock. The 12 o'clock position is a bit of a problem. It's near the receiver and the gas tube comes close to the handguard. If your hands move to the barrel nut, you might regret not wearing gloves. I also like the B5 grip. It had a rough texture and a comfortable downward angle.

The controls were pretty familiar, I'd call them mil-spec. The trigger was the same or better than a mil-spec. It was the only stage with about a millimeter of drag and decent spacing. It averaged 4.16 ounces on my digital Lyman gauge. The reset was firm, audible and tangible. The charging handle was mil-spec, one of the first things I would change.

As I consider the results of many bundle trips, I find myself asking a question in the back of my mind as a corporate geek: "How do they make money?"
Given the overall performance of this gun, the upgraded features that come from the factory, and the fact that it has a nice Cordura case that holds 30 rounds of PMAG, I'm amazed at how Springfield Armory was able to pull it off. turn off I think they are running on thin margins and hoping to make up for it with massive sales.
What does that mean to you, shooter? Take one! This is a good gun for the price. It's funny how many years I've tried them in a cardboard box or without a magazine. It doesn't work well when you have to go to the range. Springfield Armory offers everything you need to shoot.
In my experience with the Saint, it is a reliable gun with good accuracy. You can also upgrade as you see fit. We've waited a long time for Springfield's AR15, and it's been worth the wait and the money. Here's why…
Review: Springfield Armory Saint Free Float 5.56 Nato
Springfield ads teased us with a new product, and we recently learned that it's a SAINT AR15 type rifle. It is the first AR15 to bear the famous Springfield Armory stamp. Although the rifle is described as entry level, this is not true. There are more expensive rifles, but the Springfield isn't cheap - it's under $900. That's a very important price point. The rifle has good features and is built for reliability. SAINT aims to appeal to the young, adventurous and serious about taking responsibility for their own safety. I agree, but older shooters like myself who can appreciate quality at a reasonable price will also appreciate the SAINT. As a Springfield enthusiast, the SAINT will take its place next to my 1903 Springfield and modern 1911 operator pistols, but there is more to the puzzle than the name. I've now fired less than 600 rounds through the SAINTA, but it's been a great experience. (The rifles I test are field accurate, not typewriter accurate. I know the difficulty, both financially and physically, of firing a thousand rounds or more).
Let's see the details. The SAINT features an A2-style front sight/gas block and a folding rear sight. The rear sight has the Springfield "Crossed Cannons" emblem. The rear sight isn't target grade, but it's useful for short-range defensive work and getting hunters out to 100 yards, which is what I'll be using this 6-pound, 11-ounce rifle for. The gas system is a medium length architecture. The medium length system is suitable for use with standard bullet weights without going into a discussion that would fill these pages on its own. The SAINT has a 16-inch barrel chambered for the 5.56mm NATO cartridge. This means you can shoot .223 Remington or 5.56mm cartridges with no problem. Its 1-inch 8-inch barrel twist is more popular. This 7- to 9-inch barrel twist rate has proven accurate with most of the loads I've tested. So far, it has included bullet weights of 52 and 77 grains.
The trigger is of the GI type, which in my example breaks at 6.7 pounds. It's in the middle for an AR trigger, and it's clean and crisp. There is also a special coating that allows the trigger group to run smoothly. The receivers are anodized aluminum, unsurprisingly, but the bolt carrier group is also coated and stamped with the Springfield logo. I like it a lot. Springfield added a new design with the Acu-Tite tension system. This is a screw located on the lower receiver that allows the user to tighten the receivers together. I like it
